Short Bio

Thanos Kontos is a physiotherapist and McKenzie Institute Instructor (MDT) specializing in the diagnosis and management of chronic musculoskeletal pain. He holds an MSc in Pain Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy, and serves on the McKenzie Institute's International Education Council.

Short CV

Thanos Kontos is a physiotherapist specializing in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal pain. Born in Athens, he graduated from the Athens School of Physiotherapy in 2012. Since the beginning of his career, he has been active in the management, rehabilitation, and prevention of musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

In 2014, he began his specialization in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT – the McKenzie Method). In 2018, he was admitted to the postgraduate program at the University of Dundee (Scotland), and in 2019 he obtained the Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy, completing his clinical practice at King's Cross Hospital, NHS Tayside, in Dundee (UK).

In 2024, he completed postgraduate studies in Algology (MSc in Algology: Pain Management, Diagnosis and Treatment — Pharmacologic, Interventional and Other Techniques), focusing on pain diagnosis and management, at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

He works as a specialized clinical physiotherapist in musculoskeletal conditions, with a particular clinical and scientific interest in chronic and persistent musculoskeletal pain and the management of complex painful conditions. He is also a member of the interdisciplinary team at the Pain Clinic of the General Hospital of Nikaia – West Attica.

Since 2022, he has served as an Instructor for the McKenzie Institute (Instructor MDT), providing education to healthcare professionals on the diagnosis and modern management of musculoskeletal pain. In 2024, he was appointed a member of the McKenzie Institute's International Education Council (IEC).

In 2025, he founded First Contact Physio, a specialized physiotherapy center in Palaio Faliro (Athens) focused on musculoskeletal pain care, where he currently serves as Clinical Director.

He has participated as a speaker, and as a member of scientific and organizing committees, at scientific conferences and congresses in Greece and abroad. Since 2015, he has been a scientific and clinical associate of the McKenzie Institute Greece. He is a member of the Hellenic Society of Algology and the Panhellenic Physiotherapy Association.

In his free time, he is a long-distance runner and is involved in music.
